Hiking, Swimming & Staying at Mountain Sanctuary Park

I’m in this weird space in my life at the moment where I want to go back to basics and live off the land and disconnect from the grid. It’s a nice thought, but an entirely different reality, I know. So in the meanwhile I’m going to get my fix from nature and weekends. My friend Renee and I recently packed a picnic basket, donned our trail sneakers and set out in Stella (that’s my Fiat 500C), nose pointed firmly at Mountain Sanctuary Park in Magaliesberg. It’s a 2 hour drive from Sandton, so leave early and make a day of it. I think the best approach is to go for the weekend and rent a cabin; although it’s hot AF and probably not ideal if you’re an air-con only type of traveller. I think it’ll be amazing to rent a cabin at Mountain Sanctuary Park in the winter, drink gallons of red wine fireside and go for cool mountain pool swims. I mean?!

You need to contact Mountain Sanctuary Park to get permission to gain access as they have a daily visitor limit within the reserve. It’s R100 per day visitor, and there are a range of accommodation options; here to view rates. Here are some pics from Renee and my little adventure; we loved it and can’t wait to go back, for longer this time.
